The next few days were spent cutting the holes for the 4 windows, finishing up the door frame, building a door, and ladders for the lofts.  Of course all of this was done with Wayne's trusty chainsaw.
The next step is placing the picture window in here.  The cabin was built around the opening, and Wayne used vertical supports to keep the settling logs from breaking the large glass in the picture window.
October 14, 1996, .A big moment, we're moving the fireplace in.  We purchased this Franklin Fireplace from a man in Ladysmith on March 19th for $300.00.  It had only been used a couple of times, and was just perfect for the cabin.  We stored it in the corner of the living room until we could move it in.
Once the chimney was build, we lit our First Fire on October 18th!!!!!

We spent the entire day at the cabin, just relaxing!  The men took the boys hunting and the gals arranged the patio furniture in the cabin to make it homey.  We roasted hot dogs in the fireplace for lunch and made plans on how we would finish and furnish the cabin.

Our dream had become a reality!

On October 23rd, Wayne put the first section of tin on the roof.  It was finished on October 26th.  We celebrated by spending our first night in the cabin.  Actually, we were having a new kitchen floor installed in the house and it was just easier to move in to the cabin while this was being done.

Our first night was quite a remarkable one, spent sitting in front of the fireplace and relaxing.  When it was time to go to bed we all had a hard time sleeping because we were having one of the windiest nights of the year.  Though the wind howled, the cabin didn't even creek.  We did a good job!

November 1996
We invited all the deer hunters to join us this year staying at the cabin for deer hunting.  This was the beginning of a yearly tradition
Here our friend Gene
poses for the camera.
