Our cabin is the result of a dream that started many, many years ago. At age 19, Wayne spent a bit of time in the hospital after having 2 toes cut off in an auger. During his hospital stay, he received a book from his sister Nita. This book was called Foxfire. Having a lot of time on his hands, Wayne studied this book and learned a great deal. He found himself quite interested though, in the section on building a log cabin. He thought that one day he would do as the pioneers did, and build a log cabin in the woods.
A couple of years later, Wayne met Janet and they were married one year later. Raising a family while working the farm was an honest living and proved to be very rewarding. Over the years Wayne's thoughts kept drifting back to the Foxfire book he still had, to the ever present dream of building his log cabin. Though now his thoughts involved having his family to help him realize his dream.
Many times Wayne and Janet rode their horses around the farm and through the woods. One day in particular though, as they rode across the damn, they happened to be drawn to a particular spot on the east side right along the edge of the woods. They couldn't help but think that this would be the perfect setting for a log cabin. The dream lived on.

One day, February 7, 1995 to be exact, unknown to Janet, Wayne and Neil decided that it was time to make the dream a reality. They began the long process of cutting down select poplar trees just east of where the cabin was to stand. During an entire month they worked every spare moment they could cutting down about 100 trees, which would be cut into 379 logs.
About this time, Wayne and Janet started making plans for the cabin. They drew many "floor plans" until they settled on just the right one. How exciting it was, to be able to actually envision what the cabin would look like. Here's a smaller version of the original plan.
