It took 6 days to cut all the logs. Once the logs were cut, Wayne would haul them with the loader tractor back to the damn.
For all that work, Jonas only charged us $420.00.
Here's a copy of his receipt.
Once the logs were finished came a long and sometimes painful job. They had to be stripped of their bark. Wayne spent countless hours every day stripping each and every log, one by one. As each one was stripped, he would stack the logs into one massive pile to dry
Now as you can imagine, there was a lot of bark on all those logs. The pile grew rather large by the time they all got done. Well, what do you do with a pile of tree bark but burn it. A bonfire sounded like just the thing. So, we invited all the people that have helped so far (as well as family and friends) to a huge bonfire, to be held on May 18, 1995.
We had a perfect evening, slightly cool with beautiful clear skies. Wayne lit the fire right after chores and before long our guests showed up. Of course, we had a little work in mind for each of them. We thought it would be nice if we got each person to strip the bark from one log, so Wayne saved a few especially for this evening. Now this could be quite an undertaking if you're not physically fit. So, one by one, each person took hold of the stripper and went to work. Here's a couple of shots of our handy workers. Even Grandma Berger got her hands in.
